The Damned 'Damned Damned Damned' (1977)
A major groundbreaker (the very first British punk band to issue an album [Stiff Records' first LP]), a stripped-down punk album of high-speed songs filled with raunchy guitar rock and equally aggressive sentiments. With Nick Lowe producing, the Damned trounced such then-hard-to-challenge traditional recording values as musical precision and studio-quality sound. Unfailingly energetic and vital, it's the only Damned studio album to feature the original lineup of Dave Vanian (vocals), Brian James (guitar), the exceptionally skillful Rat Scabies (drums) and Captain Sensible (bass). - Trouser Press

There's some good live footage of this line up on an 'Old Grey Whistle Test' DVD. I recommend it.
One of the best albums ever produced. Interestingly there's an early 90s Seattle comp out there with a bunch of grunge/punk bands covering the damned. I think it's called "Another Damned Compilation". Be fun to put that up and compare it to the original. Hell ... there's no comparison.
Don't have that one, but I'll keep an eye out for it. Perhaps someone else will leave a link...?
One of those bands I'd always heard about but didn't know much about, and couldn't name any of their songs...nice record, this...the sound, and especially the vocals, remind me a lot of the Dolls, although this seems quite a bit more punked up.
