Mysterious feeling

Wire 'Chairs Missing' (1978)
Coming off the sublime 'Pink Flag', Wire went a little loony. But in a good way, mind you. The songwriting is less punk, more expansive, strange, psychedelic and even poppy. Listen closely and you'll find you're being sucked in again without mercy.

Excellent album that I didn't appreciate at the time; Wire stands out with Pere Ubu as "post-punk" music that was contemporaneous with punk. Of course, punk was supposed to be about doing whatever you wanted, not just doing the same as all the other punks - witness the NY scene circa 76/77 - but even some of us who were relatively openminded along those lines missed some of the brilliance because it fell outside the lines. Great great album.
